Tuddenham Mill's Head Chef Lee Bye - Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2015 winner

Lee Bye, wins Chef of the Year title at The Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2015

22nd April 2015

After a two year break, the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards have returned to celebrate all the best that the county has to offer. The awards have recognised and rewarded the county’s best producers, businesses and outstanding personalities in their 10 award categories. Our Head Chef, Lee Bye, was announced as the winner of the Chef of the Year award in the celebratory ceremony that took place at Kesgrave Hall on Monday 20th April 2015.

All nominees for the Suffolk Chef of the Year title, were asked to submit a menu with recommended matching wines and after rigorous judging, only three chefs had been selected to continue the fierce competition. Tuddenham Mill’s Head Chef, Lee Bye, was shortlisted together with Alan Paton from The Crown at Stoke by Nayland and Chris Lee from the Packhorse Inn. The three finalists then met at the Suffolk New College where they were set a two hour cooking challenge and had to prepare their proposed menus. Judges have selected the winning chef based on the best menu that reflects the county, and which demonstrates originality, seasonality and use of local produce. The judges were very impressed with Tuddenham Mill’s Head Chef’s organisational skills, and have commented on Lee’s great calmness and focus throughout the cook off competition.

After winning the title Lee has said, “I’m delighted to win this award from the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards. The team have a real belief in what we do every day at Tuddenham Mill and that is crucial for our success. To be recognised as ‘Suffolk Chef of the Year’ is a real honour in an amazing region for food and produce. Onwards and upwards!”
