In style and comfort
The Mill is the perfect rural hideaway, but we’re proud also to bring a dash of urban chic to the Suffolk countryside.
Why not treat a loved one – and yourself – to a stay in one of our gorgeous Loft Suites? We have just four of these stunning rooms where space, privacy and contemporary style meet the enveloping comfort of fresh, fluffy duvets and swathes of crisp white linen. A generous bathtub made for two, absolute privacy and beautiful Meadow views make these rooms firm favourites with returning guests.
As residents you will be warmly welcomed in our award-winning restaurant to enjoy an exceptional tasting menu, inspired daily by the region’s finest seasonal ingredients. Chefs will be turning beautiful Victoria plums into delicious desserts, cooking tender squab pigeon till pink and perfect, and braising plump pigs cheeks to serve with autumn’s sweet root vegetables.
Email info@tuddenhammill.co.uk and let us help you plan a short break in style this autumn.
We’re here to stay…
… well, till the end of September at least. Alfresco dining in our beautiful Secret Garden has been such a summer hit that we can’t bring ourselves to pack away the stretch tent just yet.
So we won’t! Come and soak up lazy, hazy late-summer sunshine on the edge of our stunning Meadow, or linger into the evening and dine by candlelight as the vast Suffolk sky darkens. The Secret Garden is a place to make memories!
It’s also a place to eat well: choose plump local lobster with homemade aioli and hot sea-salt fries, or share the Secret Garden seafood platter, laden with smoked prawns, crayfish, whelks, beautiful smoked trout… and half a lobster. A glass of bright Gusbourne fizz, a carefully mixed cocktail, or chilled local ale is the perfect match, and a box of strawberry and meadowsweet or Heacham lavender and lemon choux buns rounds a meal off sweetly.
We can’t think of a more delicious way to toast late summer. Can you?
The Secret Garden is open all week with food served 11.30am to 8pm
Lamb as it ought to taste
Talking of fine seasonal ingredients, one of our absolute favourites is organic lamb from Shimpling Park Farm, just south of Bury St Edmunds. Sheep grow at their own gentle pace, living entirely outdoors on John and Alice Pawsey’s family farm where they graze on lush grass and clover – and nothing else.
The result? Incredibly tender, flavoursome meat which we are proud to put on our menu, preparing it with the care such an ingredient deserves, serving it pink and butter-soft. It’s on right now with a delicately smoked aubergine purée and intensely fruity Pedro Ximenez sauce – a match of flavours made in heaven!
To see the Pawsey’s farm in action, why not check out Alice’s brilliant YouTube video diaries that chart the busy year on this very special Suffolk farm? Go to www.youtube.com and search Shimpling Park Farm.
